La fidlit a t declare un critre secondaire, la priorit a t mis sur les prtentions et les attentes du public, compos de nobles fran?ais. Le dveloppement des "belles infidles" en France est considr comme un symbol de l'assurance et de la conscience de la langue des Fran?ais. Aujourdhui, les "belles infidles" sont souvent per?ues comme un signe d'une incomptence du traducteur par de nombreux d'experts et il y rgne, en gnral, une attitude bien ngative envers cette mthode de traduction. Pourtant, le phnomne des "belles infidles" est toujours appliqu, surtout dans la traduction littraire. In dieser ProseminarArbeit habe ich mich groteils mit der Funktion, der Form und der Entwicklung dieser bersetzungsmethode beschftigt, aber auch mit dem gesellschaftlichen Aspekt der "belles infidles", ihrer Symbolwirkung fr die Entwicklungen innerhalb der franzsischen Gesellschaft. Gleich zu Anfang ist es wohl sinnvoll, den Begriff der "belles infidles" nher zu definieren: Was sind also "belles infidles" ? Die "belles infidles" sind im Allgemeinen idiomatisch schne bersetzungen, die nicht die Aussage des Originaltextes wiedergeben. Diese Form der bersetzung, die sich vom sechzehnten bis ins neunzehnte Jahrhundert in Frankreich grter Beliebtheit erfreute, wirkt also wie ein zielsprachliches Original, das aber nur mehr wenig mit dem Originaltext gemein hat.
