In 112 Kapiteln werden, in didaktischer Absicht, die verschiedenen Facetten von Narrheit an den Pranger gestellt, wobei die fehlende Selbsterkenntnis der Narren das grte Hindernis auf dem Weg zur Weisheit1 ausmacht, so wie es Brant bereist in der Vorrede anklingen lsst: Dann wer sich fr einen narren acht/ Der ist bald zu eym wisen gmacht.2' Nachdem dieser Snden und Narrenkatalog die allermeisten Lebensbereiche beleuchtet, werden dabei auch die Geschlechter in ihren Eigenschaften als sexuelle Wesen, Eheleute und Eltern betrachtet, was wiederum Rckschlsse auf aus Brants Sicht wnschenswerte und verwerfliche Beziehungen zwischen Mann und Frau und deren Rolle innerhalb der Gesellschaft zulsst. Besonders interessant ist diese Darstellung der Geschlechter angesichts der Tatsache, dass sich gerade am bergang zwischen Mittelalter und Neuzeit die Bedeutung von Ehe und Familie und auch die Stellung der Frau grundlegend verndern. Die vorliegende Arbeit will deshalb versuchen, die Darstellung von Mann und Frau sowie Ehe und Familie in Brants Narrenschiff zu hinterfragen und vor dem Hintergrund der gesellschaftlichen Vernderungen darzustellen. Die zentrale Frage wird dabei sein, nach welchen Regeln Ehe und Familie bei Brant organisiert sind und welche Aspekte berhaupt zur Illustration herangezogen werden.
