Dazu werden die Geschftsberichte des Jahres 2004 der im Dow Jones Industrial Average und im DAX 30 notierten Unternehmen auf ihre verffentlichten Angaben bezglich der GoodwillBilanzierung untersucht und bewertet. Um das angestrebte Ziel zu erreichen, liegt der Arbeit der nachfolgend skizzierte Aufbau zugrunde: Im zweiten Kapitel Regelungen zur GoodwillBilanzierung nach IFRS und USGAAP" werden zunchst der Begriff des Goodwill abgegrenzt und seine mglichen Erscheinungsformen dargestellt. Ferner wird erlutert, auf welche Bestandteile der Goodwill zurckgefhrt werden kann. Im Anschluss daran werden die Konzeption und der Anwendungsbereich der relevanten Standards des IASB und FASB bezglich des Goodwill erlutert. Schwerpunkt des zweiten Kapitels ist nachfolgend die Darstellung der Regelungen zur Zugangs und Folgebewertung des Goodwill nach IFRS und USGAAP. Die dargestellten Regelungen bilden die Grundlage fr die empirische Untersuchung der Bilanzierungspraxis von Unternehmen der Aktienindices Dow Jones und DAX 30, die Gegenstand des dritten Kapitels ist. Im Zuge des dritten Kapitels Empirische Untersuchung der Bilanzierung des Goodwill" wird zunchst verdeutlicht, welche bilanzielle Bedeutung der Goodwill bei den notierten Unternehmen des Dow Jones und des DAX 30 in den vergangenen Jahren besa. Anschlieend werden Checklisten entwickelt, mit denen das Publizittsverhalten der Unternehmen bezglich der Bilanzierung des Goodwill untersucht wird.
