Emin Pascha, bedeutendster Pionier der Erforschung Innerafrikas und Leiter der quatorialprovinz, wird durch den MahdiAufstand von gypten und dem Sudan abgeschnitten. Im Jahre 1887 startet der Brite Henry Stanley eine Expedition, um den in die Enge getriebenen Emin Pascha zu befreien. 1888 erreicht die stanleysche Expedition ihr Ziel, doch zwischen Emin und Stanley kommt es zu Meinungsverschiedenheiten. Doch der MahdiAufstand spitzt sich zu und Emin Pascha sieht sich gezwungen, seine Provinz aufzugeben und mit den Briten an die Kste zu ziehen. Zeitgleich startet die deutsche EminPaschaExpedition unter der Leitung Carl Peters. Die Hilfsexpedition fhrt ber das Sultanat Witu nach Uganda bis hin nach Bagamoyo. Unbemerkt von der Tatsache das Emin Pascha und Stanley bereits auf den Weg zur Kste sind, setzt Peters begleitet von Adolf von Tiedemann seinen Weg in die quatorialprovinz fort. Das vorliegende Buch ist die spannende und mitreiende Dokumentation Peters Reise die jedoch nicht unumstritten blieb: blutige Kmpfe mit den Eingeborenen und der Raub von Viehherden zur Ernhrung seiner Mannschaft brachten Peters mit seiner Expedition in Deutschland viel Kritik ein.
