Die Spannweite ihrer Deutungen und Wertungen reicht von einer Verurteilung der Vertreibungen als Unrecht bis zu ihrer Rechtfertigung als Folge des Krieges. Dabei wird deutlich, dass die Kontrahenten im Streit um die Interpretation der Geschichte immer nur solche Ausschnitte hervorgehoben haben, die ihrer Argumentation dienlich waren.
