Im Spannungsfeld Israel behauptet sich zwischen Juden und Christen eine ungewhnliche Gemeinde von Glubigen die Drusen. Ihr Glaube, der sich im 11. Jahrhundert n. Chr. vom schiitischen Islam abgespalten hat, ist geheim und eine Konversion zum Drusentum ist nicht mglich. Sie sprechen Arabisch und pflegen die arabische Kultur. Dabei sind sie in Israel die einzige nichtjdische Gemeinde, die sich verpflichtet hat, den Wehrdienst abzuleisten. Im Rahmen dieses Balanceaktes integrieren sie sich in die israelische Gesellschaft auf wirtschaftlicher und politischer Ebene. Die Drusen sind keine Rasse, keine Nation, kein Stamm und kein Volk und stellen somit diese Kategorien in Frage. Herkunft, Geschichte, Kultur, Tradition und Religion sind Punkte, an denen sie ihr Bewutsein orientieren und an die sie glauben, weshalb von fiktiver Ethnizitt die Rede ist. Es erfolgt in diesem Buch ein in dieser Komprimierung bislang nicht vorliegender berblick ber Geschichte und Religion der Drusen. Primordialistische und konstruktivistische Ethnizittskonzepte werden hier vorgestellt und auf ihre Anwendbarkeit in bezug auf die Drusen berprft, wobei kein Konzept passend erscheint.
