Die vorliegende Arbeit soll zeigen inwieweit sich die Kirche und deren katholischchristliche Vorstellungen von Ehe, aus dem Blickwinkel der Ehescheidung, bis zum frhen Mittelalter durchgesetzt haben. Dabei soll betrachtet werden, inwieweit jdische, griechische und vor allem rmische Ehegebruche Einfluss bten und wie sich das christliche Eherecht in der Sptantike zunehmend gegenber dem germanischen Recht durchsetzte. Darf hier von einer Verschmelzung von germanischheidnischen Gewohnheiten und katholischchristlichen Vorstellungen gesprochen werden? Ob und inwieweit sich christliche Ehevorstellungen bis zum Frhmittelalter zu einem Eherecht entwickeln und gegenber dem weltlichen Recht durchsetzen konnten soll auch am Beispiel Hinkmar von Reims Gutachten bezglich der Synode von Toucy De nuptiis Stephani, et filiae Regimundi comitis" (Epistola XXII) untersucht werden.
