Besonders im Holozn gab es bedeutende Vernderungen des Kstenbildes. Die hier vorliegende Arbeit beschftigt sich mit dieser Entwicklung der Nordseekste im Holozn. Eine Zweiteilung der Arbeit erschien mir sinnvoll, da es zwei wesentliche Aspekte bei der Entwicklung in den letzten 10.000 Jahren gibt. Laut REINECK (1994:6) ist der Meeresspiegelanstieg nach der letzten Eiszeit von entscheidender Bedeutung. Jedoch lassen sich die Vernderungen der letzten 10.000 Jahre nur noch schwer nachweisen, da es hier noch wenige Forschungen gibt und eindeutige Beweise fehlen. Eine kontroverse Arbeit schrieb hierber KHN im Jahr 1991 auf die ich mich in Kapitel 5 beziehe. Aufgrund einer weiteren Mglichkeit, die Entwicklung der Nordsee, darzustellen, werde ich in Kapitel 7 auf die Ausbildung der deutschen Nordseekste eingehen. Der Schwerpunkt liegt hierbei auf den letzten Jahrhunderten und den Einwirkungen von speziellen Ereignissen, den Sturmfluten. Durch diese extremen Ereignisse kam es zu zahlreichen Vernderungen die noch heute sichtbar und "greifbar" sind. Kapitel 3 zeigt ein paar typische Landformen in Kstengebieten. Zu Beginn sollen jedoch erst ein paar Grundlagen zu Verstndnis der maritimen Prozesse an einer Kste ganz allgemein erlutert werden.
