Ein Attentat ist ein Anschlag auf eine Persnlichkeit von hohem politischen, religisen oder gesellschaftlichen Rang, welche der Attentter versucht zu tten oder zu verletzten. Auch Anschlge auf bekannte Gebude werden als Attentat gesehen. Eine solche Tat muss von einer politischen Hinrichtung unterschieden werden. Eine politische Hinrichtung ist von staatlichen Organen veranlasst und somit im Gegensatz zu einem Attentat nicht illegal wo hingegen ein Attentat verbt von einem Tter oder einer Ttergruppe meist illegal ist. In seltenen Fllen lassen sich politische Attentate gesetzlich legitimieren. Sogar heute noch ist im Grundgesetz der Bundesrepublik Deutschland im Artikel 20, dem sogenannten Widerstandsgesetz, festgehalten, wann Widerstand gegen die Obrigkeit gesetzlich erlaubt ist.
