So lie die Medienkrise mit ihrem Beginn in 2001 bei den Verantwortlichen die Erkenntnis reifen, dass eine alleinige Konzentration auf Werbeerlse und geringe Vertriebseinknfte fr die Zukunft nicht ausreichend Sicherheit bietet. Zudem entwickelten sich die digitalen Medien in rasanter Weise und obwohl Zeitschriften und Zeitungen davon anfangs nur gering betroffen schienen, wurde bald das ungeheure Ausma des Wachstums der OnlineAktivitten sichtbar. Die anfngliche Zurckhaltung wich schnell einer Euphorie und dem neuen Medium wurden rasante Zuwchse am Werbemarkt bescheinigt. Einige gingen sogar so weit und sagten dem Print Medium ein baldiges Ende voraus. Doch der neue Markt stellte sich als schwieriger heraus als anfangs angenommen und die Vorteile des neuen Mediums sowie seine Mglichkeiten waren hufig berschtzt worden. Dem Enthusiasmus der Branche folgte die Enttuschung und man erkannte, dass dem Internet nicht vllig mhelos Erlse zu entlocken waren und sich nicht alle Ideen als profitabel erwiesen. Auch die Erwartungen und Ansprche der Nutzer wandelten sich in den vergangenen Jahren und die Qualitt der Inhalte sowie ein hohes wissenschaftliches Niveau der Beitrge traten verstrkt in den Fokus. Zwar stehen Fachzeitschriften bei professionellen Entscheidern noch immer als Informationsmedium weit vor anderen Medien, doch wird der Wettstreit um alternative Kommunikationskanle zusehends aggressiver.
