Die vorliegende Arbeit sprt der Rolle und Funktion der Dienerin Franoise im Text der Recherche nach. Die Studie offenbart dabei Franoise als zentrale Figur, ber deren Untersuchung ins Kunstverstndnis des Erzhlers vorgedrungen werden kann. Im Rahmen einer umfassenden Darstellung des literargeschichtlichen Kontextes erffnet sie ber motivwissenschaftliche Vergleiche mit Texten von Molire, Marivaux, Balzac, Flaubert, Goncourt, Zola und Maupassant auch intertextuelle Lesarten und gibt Aufschlsse ber das Verhltnis Prousts zu diesen Autoren. Von der Autorin liegt bereits ein Beitrag zur Figur der Franoise vor, der im Mitteilungsorgan der Marcel Proust Gesellschaft PROUSTIANA (Bd. XXII, 1. Aufl. 2003) im InselVerlag erschienen ist.
