Dies waren Karl Valentins Worte im Jahr 1940. Doch was sagt das Adjektiv fremd' eigentlich ber einen Menschen aus? Zuerst einmal kommt ein Fremder geographisch gesehen aus einer anderen Region, einem anderen Staat oder Wohnraum, weshalb sich die kulturellen Prgungen grundlegend voneinander unterscheiden. Der Fremde ist somit ein Auslnder, der nicht an die Sitten und Bruche des anderen Landes, in dem er sich befindet, gewhnt ist. Die folgende Arbeit setzt sich mit dem Bild des Fremden und dem damit einhergehenden Charakteristikum des Barbarischen auseinander. Im Mittelpunkt steht hierbei die Figur Medeas als Fremde in Korinth in den Werken von Franz Grillparzer und Christa Wolf. Ist es fr die Kolcherin berhaupt mglich, sich in das festgesetzte Bild der Griechen zu integrieren? Oder ist sie von Beginn an untrennbar mit dem negativen Bild einer Barbarin verknpft und ihr Schicksal damit unausweichlich? Wolf geht jedoch im Gegensatz zu Grillparzer noch einen Schritt weiter. Sie macht das Vorgehen Medeas nicht nur fr das Publikum verstndlich, sondern inszeniert die Griechen als eigentliche Mrder, die Medea als Sndenbock nutzen, um ihre eigenen Taten zu verschleiern. Welche Rolle spielt bei dieser Version des Dramas das Zusammenspiel zwischen Fremdheit und Barbarentum? Und wie wird das Bild der Griechen, die den Fremden als Barbaren prgten, ins Gegenteil verkehrt? In dieser Hinsicht spielt auch die Entwicklung der Figur Medeas in den beiden Dramen eine entscheidende Rolle, auf die im Laufe dieser Arbeit ebenfalls nher eingegangen werden soll. Darber hinaus soll geklrt werden, ob am Ende von Grillparzers und Wolfs Drama die Kolcher oder Korinther das Barbarische verkrpe
