Gemeint ist der Hauptgottesdienst mit Predigt und Abendmahl, denn die gottesdienstliche Versammlung der christlichen Gemeinde ist bestimmt von den zwei Formen gttlicher Anrede: dem Wort und dem Sakrament des Altares. Die Formulierung des Themas versucht einem Miverstndnis auszuweichen, demzufolge der Gottesdienst als unser Dienst fr Gott verstanden wird, wiewohl auch unser Handeln im Gottesdienst zur Ehre Gottes nicht gering geachtet werden soll. Die Arbeit ist zur Untersuchung den Themas aus sytematischtheologischer Sicht vergeben worden. Sie will deshalb versuchen, den Stoff in dieser Weise zu durchdringen. Sie lt aber dem praktisch theologischen Bezug einen gewissen Raum, durch den die intradisziplinre Handhabung gerechtfertigt ist. Die kirchengeschichtliche Herleitung der "Elemente" scheint der Traditionsgebundenheit des Gottesdienstes wegen notwendig zu sein. Der Stoff ist wiederholt behandelt worden. Das zeigt das Interesse, das ihm von jeher entgegengebracht worden ist. Diese Untersuchung mu sich an diese, meist sekundren Quellen halten. Sie vermeidet aber die bloe Rezension einiger Standardwerke, weil sie sich nicht jeder in ihnen ber den Gottesdienst gemachten Aussage anschlieen will. Die Bearbeitung des Themas erfolgt in drei Abschnitten. In einem ersten wird die geschichtliche Entwickelung des Gottesdienstes verfolgt. Dabei steht die Hinfhrung auf den derzeit in der evangelischen Kirche der Union praktizierten Gottesdienst im Vordergrund. Jedoch ist auf die neutestamentliche Grundlegung und die Entwickelung bis zur Reformation keineswegs verzichtet worden. Ein weiterer Abschnitt versucht, die wesentlichen Bestandteile des Gottesdienstes darzustellen und zu erlutern. Er behandelt
