Sie wrde dir tchtig Angst machen [...]' Franz Kafka an Felice Bauer am 23.11.1912 1 Diese Zeilen schrieb Franz Kafka seiner spteren Verlobten Felice Bauer in einem Brief, kurz nach der Vollendung der Verwandlung' im November 1912.2 Die bekannte Erzhlung erfllt nicht nur Kafkas Vorliebe nach tierischen Protagonisten, sondern ist auch eines der meistgedeuteten Werke des Autors. Dies liegt wohl auch an den grotesken Zgen der Erzhlung, welche schon die tierische Hauptfigur Gregor Samsa aufweist. Diese Groteske und ihre Darstellung werden Thema dieser Arbeit sein. Es soll dargestellt werden, dass sich der Titel Die Verwandlung' nicht nur auf Gregor Samsa bezieht, sondern dass innerhalb der Erzhlung noch eine andere Verwandlung stattfindet. Denn nach der sichtbaren Verwandlung der Hauptfigur in ein Ungeziefer' geschieht eine langsame, uerlich schwerer sichtbare Verwandlung der brigen Familienmitglieder. Diese Metamorphose geschieht auf eine unheimliche Art und Weise und stellt sich dadurch innerhalb der Erzhlung als grotesk dar3. In der hier vorliegenden Arbeit soll diese groteske Verwandlung der Familie analysiert, dargestellt und anhand der Theorien der Groteske nach Michail Bachtin belegt werden. Ich werde daher zunchst den Begriff der Groteske und die Theorien des Michail Bachtin darlegen, und versuchen, die hier relevanten und bentigten Thesen aufzulisten. Diese sollen dann, nach einer kurzen Einfhrung in den Primrtext Die Verwandlung', auf die drei brigen Mitglieder der Familie Samsa angewandt werden. Dabei werde ich Vater, Mutter und die Schwester Grete jeweils getrennt behandeln und eventuelle gemeinsame Aspekte
