Wird sich mit der Identitt der Europischen Union beschftigt, erscheint es demnach sinnvoll, diesen Begriff ein wenig einzuschrnken und sich auf einige ausgewhlte Fragestellungen zu konzentrieren. So ist die Europische Union natrlich eine Wirtschafts und Sozialgemeinschaft, sollte jedoch unter Bercksichtigung von aktuellen Gegebenheiten wie der Erweiterung, der Zuwanderung und auch der zu beobachtendenTendenzen zu destruktiven Strmungen auch als eine in sich geschlossene Wertegemeinschaft gesehen werden. Um Werte zu formulieren, auf welchen eine europische Identitt im ideologischen Sinne grnden knnte, muss berprft werden, was die Europische Union im Kern ausmacht, beziehungsweise worin genau die gemeinsame Substanz der Mitgliedsstaaten besteht. Wird die Europische Union unter dem Aspekt allgemeingltiger Werte einer nheren Betrachtung unterzogen, wird deutlich, dass gegenwrtig in modernen pluralistischen Gesellschaften Tendenzen zu beobachten sind, welche eine klare Definition der Identitt erschweren. In Addition dazu sollte der Zusammenhang zwischen Identitt und Identifikation erlutert werden. Schlielich stellt sich die Frage, ob eine Identifikation mit der Europischen Union berhaupt notwendig ist und durch welche Faktoren ein Zusammengehrigkeitsgefhl herstellbar ist.
