Ist das Bild ber die kulturell andere Frau' das Gleiche, oder gibt es Unterschiede in der Wahrnehmung der orientalischen Frau. Welche Vorstellungen hatten die Europer ber die Harems, welche die Privatrume der orientalischen Frauen sind und wie sah die Wirklichkeit aus? Wie gingen Schriftsteller und Philosophen mit der Fremde um und dem Image des Orients und wer prgte dieses? Die unterschiedlichen Erfahrungen mit dem Orient sollen anhand exemplarischer Vergleiche kurz geschildert werden, um auch die unterschiedlichen Voraussetzungen aufzuzeigen, unter denen sich Europer in den Orient begaben. Das Hauptarbeitsmittel und die Grundlage dieser Arbeit stellt dabei das Buch Europa und der Orient 8001900' herausgegeben von Gereon Sievernich und Hendrik Budde im Rahmen einer Ausstellung des vierten Festivals der Weltkulturen Horizonte 1889 in Berlin dar. Auch das Thema Reiseberichte' soll nher beleuchtet und untersucht werden, ob sich Unterschiede in den verschiedenen Berichten ber den Orient aus mnnlicher Sicht, weiblicher sowie ein Vergleich zwischen den weiblichen Berichten erkennen lassen. Wie sich bestimmte Vorurteile und Images bis in unsere heutige Zeit gehalten haben und in wie weit wir heute von einem vernderten oder stagnierten Orientbild sprechen knnen, soll nun im Folgenden geklrt werden.
