Anhand der barocken Grndungsfeiern der ChristianAlbrechtsUniversitt zu Kiel im Oktober 1665 stellt die Arbeit den Symbolgehalt und die rechtliche Bedeutung der einzelnen Akte des Universittszeremoniells dar. Die in Kiel angewandten akademischen Riten entstammen der Frhzeit der europischen Universitten und sind exemplarisch fr das Zeremoniell an anderen deutschen Hochschulen. Sie dienten dazu, die rechtliche Stellung der Universitt als Krperschaft mit einer Vielzahl von eigenen Rechten nach auen hin bildlich darzustellen. Eine wichtige Rolle spielten in diesem Zusammenhang die traditionellen Insignien der Hochschule. Auch die Promotion der ersten Kieler Doktoren gehrte zur Inauguration. Die Universittsautonomie wurde aus der kaiserlichen Reichsgewalt hergeleitet, was ebenfalls im Grndungszeremoniell zum Ausdruck kommt.
