Nach dem Debakel von Kopenhagen steht die internationale Gemeinschaft immer noch vor der Herausforderung, ein Nachfolgeabkommen fr das KyotoProtokoll abzuschlieen. Angesichts der zentralen Rolle Brasiliens als Akteur der globalen Klimapolitik ist die Analyse der brasilianischen Klimapolitik fr die knftigen Verhandlungen auf internationaler Ebene von entscheidender Bedeutung. Schlielich gehrt Brasilien zusammen mit China und Indien zu denjenigen Lndern, welche entscheidend dafr sein werden, ob und in welcher Weise die Einbindung der Entwicklungs und Schwellenlnder in ein globales Klimaregime gelingen kann. Neben der Gre und Bedeutung des Landes machen drei weitere Faktoren es besonders interessant, sich mit Brasiliens Klimapolitik zu beschftigen: die globale Bedeutung seiner Regenwlder als Kohlenstoffspeicher, das enorme Potenzial zur Herstellung von Biokraftstoffen und die Hhe der Emissionen eines der weltweit grten Emittenten von Treibhausgasen. Wie weit ist Brasiliens nationale Klimapolitik? Welche Positionen gibt es zur Gestaltung eines Nachfolgevertrages zum KyotoProtokoll? Wie stehen die Chancen fr eine Einbeziehung des Landes in ein globales Klimaabkommen? Hanna Hellenbroich sucht nach Antworten auf diese Fragen und analysiert in diesem Zusammenhang die nationale und internationale Klimapolitik Brasiliens.
