Gegenstand der Arbeit ist die Landeskunde im Rahmen der Fremdsprachenausbildung an den Schulen und Hochschulen der DDR. Untersucht wird die Entwicklung dieses Faches, das sich neben der Sprach und Literaturwissenschaft als dritte Sule der Ausbildung von Fremdsprachenlehrern etabliert hatte. Im Zentrum der Analyse stehen dabei sowohl die bildungspolitischen Rahmenbedingungen landeskundlicher Ausbildung, das heit Schul und Hochschulgesetzgebung, Lehrbcher, Lehrplne, Hochschullehrmaterialien und Studienprogramme etc., als auch wissenschaftliche Arbeiten zu theoretischen Fragen der Landeskunde. Mit Blick auf eine Landeskunde, die bis heute nicht ber eine einheitliche Begriffs bzw. Gegenstandsbestimmung verfgt, enthlt das abschlieende Resmee auch Gedanken darber, was bleibt, das heit was fr eine Funktionsbestimmung der Landeskunde heute relevant sein knnte.
