Die von fantasievollen Steinmetzen gestalteten Kragsteine treten zwar lediglich in einer kunsthistorisch gesehenen kurzen Zeitspanne auf, sind allerdings zahlreich in mehreren Lndern zu finden. Anhand ihrer Komposition und Themen, ihrer Ausdrucksmittel und Affinitt zum volkstmlichzeitgenssischen Gedankengut ermglichen es die aus der Mauer hervortretenden, bebilderten Tragsteine auf die vorherrschenden, mittelalterlichen Glaubensvorstellungen zu schlieen und ihre eigene Bedeutung zu beleuchten.
