Der eigentliche Reformprozess, der die museologische Praxis des 19. Jahrhunderts in Frage stellte, fand bis 1914 statt. Es soll in dieser Arbeit nachgezeichnet werden, wie die Reformbewegung begann und wie sie sich entwickelte. Im Zuge dessen sind besonders Wilhelm von Bodes und Hugo von Tschudis Ideen und deren Verwirklichung von Bedeutung. Sie benannten ihre Ausstellungskonzepte mit Begriffen wie Stilraum oder Wohnraumatmosphre, aber auch von den Secessionisten lieen sich Bode und Tschudi inspirieren. Alexis Joachimides hat herausgearbeitet, dass im Zuge der Museumsreform auerinstitutionelle Vorbilder adaptiert wurden. Bode und Tschudi, der unter Bode seine museumspraktische Ausbildung erhalten hatte, prgten dabei wie kein anderer Museumsdirektor den neuen Typ des modernen Galerieleiters. Aufgrund Tschudis erstmaliger Verwendung der weien Wand in der stndigen Sammlung eines Museums wird kurz auf die Sonderbundausstellung in Kln von 1912 eingegangen, in der die Bilder sich ebenfalls vor weiem Grund dem Betrachter prsentierten. Jedoch befanden sich Bode und Tschudi noch in der bergangszeit, sie konnten nur temporre Ausstellungsrume schaffen, in denen sie mit ihren Ideen experimentierten in die gngige Ausstellungspraxis wurden ihre Vorschlge nmlich vorerst nicht aufgenommen.
