Der russische Schriftsteller Maxim Gorki (18681936) erlangte seine Weltbekanntheit durch die Grndung des sozialistischen Realismus. Seine oft sehr autobiografischen Werke widmete er dem schweren und ungerechten Leben des Lumpenproletariers. Sein Verstndnis fr die Schwierigkeit des Lebens der einfachen Arbeiter stammt aus der eigenen Erfahrung: Gorki wuchs in rmlichen Verhltnissen auf, schon mit elf wurde er zum Waisenkind und sollte selbst fr das eigene berleben sorgen. Diese Ausgabe enthlt des berhmten Werks Gorkis "Die Mutter". Dieser, im Jahre 1906 erschienene Roman, wurde oft als eine Autobiografie des Proletariats bezeichnet.
