Das Problem der Prostitution und der psychischen Eigentiimlichkeit der Prostituierten ist eines der altesten menschlichen Probleme iiberhaupt und hat deshalb immer wieder Arzte, Psychologen und Soziologen zur Bearbeitung gereizt. Unter den Medizinern standen die Dermatologen allen voran: Namen wie FOURNIER, NEISSER, DELBANCO, V. DUHRING, DUCREY, RIECKE, V. ZUMBUSCH, JADASSOHN und GOUGEROT miissen hier genannt werden. Ihre Untersuchungen erstreckten sich in erster Linie auf die Behandlung und Prophylaxe der Geschlechts krankheiten, die durch die Prostituierten iibertragen wurden, und auf die Gesund heitskontrolle jener Frauen. Ferner beschaftigten sie sich eingehend mit den Problemen der Bordellierung bzw. Kasernierung und auf der anderen Seite des A bolitionismus. BORELLI und STARCK packen das Problem von der psychologischen Seite an, indem sie in den Mittelpunkt ihrer Untersuchungen die Begriffe Erbe und Umwelt in ihrer Bedeutung fiir die psychische Struktur und Verhaltensweise der Prosti tuierten stellen. Sie kommen dabei zu dem Ergebnis, daB die alten Methoden des einfachen Verbotes, der gesundheitspolizeilichen Kontrolle und Uberwachung, der Fiirsorgeerziehung, der Einweisung in Arbeitshauser und der Strafandrohung, wie auch manche bisherigen Versuche der Resozialisierung von wenigen Ausnahmen abgesehen klaglich scheitern muBten. Die Schliisse, die ihnen ihre eigenen medizinischen und psychologischen Forschungen gestatten, erOffnen neue Wege fUr die Auffassung von der Prosti tution, der psychologischen Situation der Prostituierten und ihrer moglichen Resozialisierung.
