Die Befrchtung, dass protektionistische Handelspolitiken wieder aufleben knnten, wurde seit dem Ausbruch der schweren Wirtschaftskrise in 20082009 oftmals artikuliert, denn many fear that, unless policymakers are on guard, protectionist pressures could once again spin out of control' (Eichengreen und Irwin 2009b, S. 1). Zielsetzung der Arbeit ist es, diese derzeitige protektionistische Versuchung zu begrnden, zu hinterfragen und schlielich zu evaluieren, inwiefern die Staaten bislang der beschriebenen Versuchung erliegen'. Dabei ist der Vergleich zur Groen Depression 19291933, besonders vor dem Hintergrund des verfgbaren Repertoires an Reaktionsmglichkeiten und der Lehren aus dem protektionistischen Wettlauf, von groer Bedeutung. Aber auch die seither eingetretene Liberalisierung des Welthandels als Gegenbewegung zum Protektionismus und das aktuelle politische Umfeld, bspw. die DohaRunde und das Verhalten der G20Staaten, werden als wichtige Determinanten mit in die Betrachtung einbezogen. Zentrale Quellen der Seminararbeit sind Arbeitspapiere, die im Kreise der volkswirtschaftlichen Gruppen der World Bank und WTO entstanden sind. Die Arbeit beruht auf empirischen Daten zur Quantifizierung des Ausmaes der protektionistischen Handelspolitiken per 30.11.2009.
