Einleitung Der in Montagetechnik verfasste Roman Selim oder die Gabe der Rede' von Sten Nadolny greift das Thema der trkischen Gastarbeiter auf und setzt es in einen meiner Meinung nach interessanten Kontext. Der Roman spielt von 1965 bis 1989 und handelt von mehreren Personen, die Deutsche und Trken sind, hauptschlich aber vom trkischen Gastarbeiter Selim und dem Deutschen Alexander. Sten Nadolny zeigt bei Selim oder die Gabe der Rede', welches Bild die Trken von den Deutschen und umgekehrt haben und greift die Thematik des Fremdbildes auf. Wie der Titel schon besagt geht es zudem um Rhetorik. Das Erzhlen zieht sich als Leitthema durch den gesamten Roman (Brix, 2008, S. 175). Im Folgenden soll zum besseren Verstndnis meiner spteren Ausfhrungen der Inhalt des Romans im Hinblick auf die Figuren Selim und Alexander knapp zusammengefasst werden. Der in Bayern aufgewachsene Deutsche Alexander, der gerade seinen Wehrdienst absolviert, nimmt in einem Zugabteil Platz, in dem fnf Trken sitzen. Darunter ist auch der Trke Selim. Die beiden Hauptfiguren Selim und Alexander lernen sich aber erst zwei Jahre spter kennen, da im Zugabteil aufgrund der Sprachbarriere keine Kommunikation stattfindet. Alexanders grter Traum ist es, ein groer Redner zu werden. Vor allem geht es ihm darum, Menschen fr sich zu gewinnen und berzeugend zu sprechen. Doch genau dies gelingt ihm nicht. Um seinen Traum zu verwirklichen, dreht sich sein ganzes Leben um das Thema Rhetorik, weshalb er seinen Lebensweg mit Anstrengung geht. Obwohl er dem Wehrdienst und der Studentenbewegung kritisch gegenbersteht, tritt er ihnen bei, da er denkt, sie knnten ihm in seiner beruflichen Laufbahn helfen. Durch seinen andaue
