Die Arbeit leistet einen Beitrag zur Erschlieung der Memorialstrukturen der Sacra Capilla de El Salvador in beda. Die Errichtung des spanischen Adelsgrabmals durch Francisco de los Cobos ist Anfang des 16. Jahrhunderts, abgesehen von den kniglichen Stiftungen, eine der wichtigsten ppstlich privilegierten, privaten Kunstinitiativen Spaniens mit programmatischem Anspruch. Besonderes Merkmal dieses Ausstattungsprogramms ist die Verbindung antikheroischer Motive mit christologischmarianischen Inhalten. Es wurde der Frage nachgegangen, warum und vor allem wie Francisco de los Cobos zwar als neureicher Emporkmmling, jedoch als erster Sekretr und Gnstling Karl V. sich in seiner Heimatstadt mit der Stiftung einer Grabeskirche prsentiert. Obwohl die Sacra Capilla de El Salvador im Jahre 2003 in das Programm des Weltkulturerbes der UNESCO aufgenommen wurde, bildet das Objekt bislang selten den Gegenstand kunsthistorischer Untersuchungen. Es handelt sich bei der Studie um die erste deutsche Publikation zu diesem Thema.
