Vatikanische Konzil habe das Latein als Liturgiesprache abgeschafft und tatschlich findet man mit Ausnahme mancher Ordenskirchen kaum noch Messen in lateinischer Sprache. Dieses Verschwinden des Lateinischen ist auch nicht auf die katholische Kirche in Deutschland beschrnkt. Liest man die Texte des Konzils, so erkennt man nicht nur hier, dass die Konzilsinterpretation bzw. dessen Umsetzung hufig mit den Texten verwechselt wird, obwohl sie nicht selten ber die Textintention hinausgeht. Der folgende Text zeigt, dass es den Konzilsvtern um die Zulassung der Volkssprache ging, ohne dass damit das Latein gnzlich verdrngt wird. Ein kluger Mann hat einmal festgestellt: Das Konzil wollte die Volkssprache in der Liturgie, nicht die Liturgie in der Volkssprache.' Angesichts der heutigen Globalisierung, dem unverminderten Reisetrend und der Tendenz, alles in englischer Sprache auszudrcken, ist es sicher ein Verlust, dass die katholische Kirche ihre weltweite Sprache nahezu aufgegeben hat und man nicht mehr in der ganzen Welt an einer Messe aktiv teilnehmen und mitbeten kann. Der Vorstellung der Texte des Konzils folgt zunchst ein Abriss, in dem dargestellt wird, welche Rolle das Lateinische als Liturgiesprache bis ins 20. Jahrhundert spielte. Im zweiten Hauptteil wird dann auf das Zweite Vatikanische Konzil und seine ffnung zur Volkssprache nher eingegangen. Der dritte Teil befasst sich mit der Folgezeit, die zum einen aus weiterfhrenden Instruktionen und Stellungnahmen des kirchlichen Lehramtes bestand, zum anderen aber neben breiter Zustimmung immer wieder Kritik und Widerstand hervorrief.
