Irgendwann in deinem Leben wirst du vielleicht ein Buch lesen, und dir wird auffallen, dass man oft gleich beim ersten Satz wei, worum es in der Geschichte geht, erffnet der Erzhler von Die unheimliche Mhle, dem vierten Band der grandiosen Reihe betrblicher Ereignisse, seine eigene Story: nicht ohne an Hand von drei, vier Beispielstzen seine These zu untermauern. Dieses Buch jedoch beginnt mit dem Satz ,Die BaudelaireWaisen schauten aus dem verschmierten Zugfenster, und whrend sie in den unheimlich schwarzen Finsterwald starrten, fragen sie sich, ob ihr Leben sich wohl je zum Besseren wenden wrde'. Dass man da nur bedingt wei, wie es weitergeht, ist klar. Dieser im brigen ganz groartige Satz taucht tatschlich nach drei Seiten wieder auf, aber da ist man schon mitten drin in einem weiteren skurrilen Abenteuer rund um Lemony Snickets tragikomische Hauptfiguren, von denen man natrlich nur eines wei, nmlich, dass ihr Leben sich so schnell nicht verbessern wird. Denn auf den BaudelaireWaisen liegt ein Fluch, seit man ihnen die Nachricht vom grausamen Tod ihrer (sehr vermgenden) Eltern berbrachte und dieser Fluch hat einen Namen: Graf Olaf, der mit seinen Komplizen immer wieder versucht, den unglckseligen Waisen ihr Erbe streitig zu machen. Jetzt verfolgt er sie sogar ins unwirtliche rtchen Jammerau, wo die Baudelaires in einem Sgewerk arbeiten mssen in unmittelbarer Nhe eines Hauses in der Form eines Auges, das auffallende hnlichkeit zu einer Ttowierung Graf Olafs hat. Kein Wunder also, dass Klaus, eines der Waisenkinder, nach einem Besuch des Hauses wie hypnotisiert zur Arbeit kommt. Werden die Kinder den Klauen Graf Olafs noch einmal entkommen? Wer dstre, schwarzhumorige Kinderliteratur (auch fr Erwachsene) zu schtzen wei, der wird auch bei Die unheimliche Mhle voll auf seine Kosten kommen.
