Sptestens seit der Entdeckung des Grabes von Tutanchamun, durch Howard Carter, ist es der Traum eines jeden gyptologen, ein verschlossenes und unausgeplndertes Grab zu finden. Mohammed Z. Goneim erlebte diesen Traum. Bei seinen Grabungsarbeiten sdwestlich der Unas Pyramide in Sakkara, zwischen 1951 und 1955, entdeckte er die Pyramide des Sechemchet. Dem Umstand, dass die Pyramide nie fertig gestellt wurde, ist es zu verdanken, dass Goneim die erste und bis jetzt einzige Pyramide in moderner Zeit entdecken konnte, die nicht in der Antike geplndert wurde. Nachdem die noch original verschlossene Pyramide geffnet wurde, fanden sich bereits im Eingangskorridor kostbare Grabbeigaben wie Gefe und Goldschmuck. Das Buch "Die verschollene Pyramide" erzhlt die Entdeckungsgeschichte der Pyramide des Sechemchet, von den ersten Spatenstichen bis zur ffnung des noch original versiegelten Sarkophages in der Grabkammer.
