Er stellt eine Verknpfung zwischen der mikrosoziologischen und makrosoziologischen Ebene dar. Im Einzelnen untersucht er den Zusammenhang zwischen dem fast ausschlielichen Interesse einer ganzen Generation an ffentlichen Belangen und der Fokussierung auf den privaten Konsum. Nachdem in dieser Seminararbeit ein allgemeines Verstndnis fr die Rolle der Enttuschung verdeutlicht wurde, werden im nchsten Schritt die verschiedenen Enttuschungserfahrungen genauer betrachtet. Es sind Enttuschungen der privaten Wohlfahrt von denen des Agierens im ffentlichen Leben zu unterscheiden. Anschlieend wird das aus den Enttuschungen resultierende Verhalten betrachtet. Im Fokus steht dabei die von Hirschman entwickelte Zyklentheorie, welche die Zusammenhnge beziehungsweise Wechselwirkungen des Engagements zwischen individuellem und gesellschaftlichem Leben erlutert und die demokratiegefhrdende Entwicklung hin zum Privatbrger aufzeigt. Auf die Ausbung ehrenamtlicher Ttigkeiten in Deutschland, als besondere Form des ffentlichen Engagements, wird im darauffolgenden Abschnitt unter den Gesichtspunkten der Zyklentheorie nher eingegangen. Dabei werden genauer die verschiedenen Arten ehrenamtlicher Arbeit sowie die unterschiedlichen Motivgrnde und die bisherige und zuknftige Entwicklung der ehrenamtlichen Beschftigung untersucht. Um einer demokratiegefhrdeten Entwicklung entgegen zu wirken, werden Mglichkeiten aufgezeigt, wie der Brger mit ffentlichem Engagement tangiert werden kann und abschlieend wird daraus eine Empfehlung abgeleitet.
