Para realizar el diseo de construcciones destinadas a conducir, contener o salvar cursos de agua (canales, acueductos, etc.), se utilizan crecidas de proyecto; las que deberan realizarse sobre series de datos histricos de caudal. Esta informacin es poco frecuente en la mayor parte del mundo por lo que el anlisis se hace sobre lluvias de diseo. En este sentido, se evala la importancia del anlisis de las precipitaciones, lo que involucra la recopilacin de la mayor cantidad de informacin pluviomtrica disponible para la regin en estudio y su posterior sistematizacin con la cual realizar estudios que permitan conocer lo mejor posible las tormentas de la zona. En este trabajo se realiza una clasificacin de las tormentas extremas en el Gran San Miguel de Tucumn Argentina, en base a sus caractersticas dinmicas. Esto se realiza partiendo de un anlisis de frecuencias de los eventos registrados en 8 estaciones de medicin pluviomtrica. La finalidad del proyecto es obtener patrones de desplazamientos en las lluvias, que podran ser usados en modelos de transformacin precipitacin escorrenta que tengan en cuenta aspectos de la dinmica de lluvias.
