El Diseo Geomtrico Asistido por Ordenador (CAGD: Computer Aided Geometric Design) se basa en la representacin de curvas y superficies en el estndar NURBS (Nonuniform Rational Bsplines), compuesto por la unin de tramos de Bzier racionales. La mayora de los programas de CAD/CAM emplean dicho estndar, lo que permite disear una gran variedad de objetos utilizando una nica representacin. Un apartado del CAGD lo constituye el Procesado de Geometra, que abarca entre otros temas la obtencin de un modelo de Bzier de entidades geomtricas que no admiten una representacin polinmica o racional. En estos casos la nica solucin para su incorporacin en un programa de CAD/CAM consiste en obtener algn tipo de aproximacin. En este trabajo se describen las estrategias para calcular de manera eficiente la aproximacin de curvas y superficies mediante el empleo de sseries, una modificacin de las series de Newton que conduce a expansiones de Hermite en dos puntos, solucin natural para una representacin a trozos.
