En este trabajo se emplearon tcnicas geoestadsticas (krigeaje) y de cartografa de enfermedades sobre incidencia de sndrome gripal, declarados por la Red Centinela Sanitaria de Castilla y Len entre 200102 y 200708. Se evalu la utilidad de estas tcnicas para describir la distribucin espacial de la gripe y se analizaron la validez interna y externa, mediante validacin cruzada y por comparacin con las Enfermedades de Declaracin Obligatoria (EDO). Los hallazgos discreparon de otros trabajos que concluyen que el krigeaje ordinario pudiera ser til para describir la distribucin espacial de la gripe. Tales discrepancias probablemente se debieron a la mayor amplitud la serie y a las caractersticas sociodemogrficas de la poblacin estudiada. En este trabajo se introdujo por primera vez el uso de las EDO en el anlisis de la validez. El mejor rendimiento del mtodo se dio cuando las tasas fueron ms elevadas. Este anlisis sirvi para identificar las reas de mejora sobre la aplicacin de tcnicas geoestadsticas en la vigilancia del sndrome gripal: representatividad sociodemogrfica y espacial, colaboraciones entre territorios colindantes y adecuacin de los mtodos.
