Los objetivos de la tesis fueron describir, analizar y explorar las posibles causas de los cambios espaciales y temporales de la comunidad zoobentnica en las etapas previas y posteriores al llenado del embalse Yacyret. Se describen los principales patrones de variacin de la abundancia total, composicin taxonmica, diversidad y estructura de la comunidad, a la vez que se exploran estadsticamente las posibles causas ligadas al ambiente y a la estructura espacial, que podran explicar la variabilidad observada. La represa est localizada sobre el ro Paran entre Argentina y Paraguay. A cota de 76 msnm, el embalse posee 1.140 km2 y profundidades medias de 67 m. En prerecrecimiento, la fauna estuvo compuesta por taxones tpicos de ambientes lticos con fondo de canto rodado y arena, mientras que en postrecrecimiento hubo un aumento marcado de oligoquetos tpicos de ambientes de sedimentacin. Los sitios estudiados estuvieron bien conectados, con un patrn direccional de colonizacin aguas abajo como consecuencia de la deriva. Si interpretamos la problemtica de postrecrecimiento desde el paradigma de metacomunidades, el enfoque que se ajusta es el modelo de efecto de masas.
