Die Verwaltung und Speicherung von Wissen in Form von Dokumenten und die Fhigkeit, es in angemessener Zeit aufzufinden, wird deshalb zu einem wichtigen Aspekt heutiger Unternehmensorganisationen. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, dem Leser einen Einblick in die recht heterogene Welt der DMS und dessen heute blichen Grundfunktionen zu geben. Im Gegensatz zu Standardsoftware stellt sich die Struktur eines DMS oft als sehr uneinheitlich dar, da sich bislang keine allgemein einheitlichen Standards am Markt entwickelt haben. Aus diesem Grund ist es kaum mglich, eine Musteranleitung fr die Einfhrung eines DMS abzubilden vielmehr sollen Anregungen zum Aufbau eines eigenen Systems gegeben werden, die durch Hinzuziehung von Literatur gesammelt werden konnten und durch praktische Erfahrungen gefestigt wurden. Da Dokumentenmanagementprojekte bezglich Laufzeit, Integrationsanforderung und Akzeptanz durch die Mitarbeiter oft unterschtzt werden, ist eine umfangreiche und frhzeitige Vorbereitung mitbestimmend fr den Erfolg des Projektverlaufs.
