Don Breckon's paintings are widely recognized as being in a class of their own, capturing as they do the very essence of the grandeur of the steam locomotive about its everyday work. Here the artist concentrates on his favourite subject, the Great Western Railway. Auto trains, junction connections, doubleheaded expresses, locomotive depots and wayside stations all come vividly to life in works of true art as well as technical accuracy. Of one thing there can be no doubt the artist's love of his subject. This comes out not only in the paintings but in the detailed commentaries and the extenisve introductory text with its own range of illustrations. This book comprises a gallery in itself to be treasured as such. Don Breckon was born in 1935 in Corby, Northhamptonshire. After training and working as an art teacher, he eventually turned to painting fulltime. The ardent trainspotting of his youth resurfaced in a passion for painting scenes from the era of steam, and it is on these works that his tremendous success is based. His work has featured on television and exhibitions have been held in several parts of the UK.
