Untersucht werden die Inhalte und Formen der drei historischen Erzahlungen sowie ihre Entstehung unter den jeweiligen Rahmenbedingungen in Diktatur und Demokratie. Jenseits der politischen und nationalen Uberformungen zeigt sich dabei, dass sich Geschichte nicht beliebig neu konstruieren lasst: Gerade in ihrer gegenseitigen Abgrenzung blieben die Erzahlungen stets auch aufeinander bezogen. Der Band spiegelt die Auseinandersetzung zwischen den grossen Ideologien des 20. Jahrhunderts im lokalen Raum und erschliesst damit zugleich die stadtische Geschichtskultur Berlins in den 1930er und 1980er Jahren.Die Studie wurde im Jahr 2007 mit dem Research Prize derPraemium Erasmianum Foundation ausgezeichnet.
