The 20th centurys greatest poet was a guy from L.A. called Hank, who talked straight, drank hard, faced truth, and exposed beauty and vulnerability like no other in his place and time. Drinking with Bukowski is a celebration of that utterly original voice featuring contributions from everyone from the women who loved him to the Hollywood cognoscenti who courted him, from writers who admired him and actors who tried to emulate him to the barflies, strippers, gangsters, poets, crazies, and dreamers who knew him: Raymond Carver, Wanda Coleman, Harold Norse, Michael C. Ford, and Paul Vangelisti pay homage and recount the Dionysian days of L.A. poetry; record producer Harvey Robert Kubernik and journalist Barry Miles remember capturing Buk on vinyl for the first time; novelist Steve Abee remembers the early days of L.A.s underground newspapers Open City and the L.A. Free Press Bukowskis early stomping grounds.

I picked this up out of curiosity about Bukowski's life, and it did not disappoint. His recollections are raw and real, perfectly capturing the essence of Skid Row. If you're a fan of poetry, or just interested in gritty autobiographies, give this a read!

A Little Disorganized at Times
The stories in 'Drinking with Bukowski' are fascinating, but I found the flow a bit jumpy. I enjoyed the anecdotes, but some sections felt like they needed better transitions. Still, it’s worth reading if you appreciate Bukowski's style and humor.

Not What I Expected
Honestly, I thought this book would be more poetic. It’s really just a collection of memories, which gave me mixed feelings. Some parts were interesting, but I was hoping for more of his actual poetry included. It’s okay for casual readers, just keep expectations in check.

A Must-Read for Bukowski Fans!
As a long-time fan of Bukowski, this book was like having a drink with him. His recollections are vivid and transport you to his world. The way he describes life on Skid Row is both haunting and beautiful. Can't put it down!
