Dabei kommen auch poetologische Aspekte zur Sprache. Sowohl Der goldne Topf als auch Der Sandmann thematisieren die Entwicklung einer Knstlerfigur und ihr Verhltnis zur Realitt. Die Forschung weist mehrmals auf die Verwandtschaft beider Werke hin; sie werden sogar als Text und Gegentext bezeichnet. Gegenstand dieser Arbeit ist daher ein differenzierter Vergleich der Erzhlungen, um die zahlreichen Gemeinsamkeiten in Inhalt, Struktur, Figurenzeichnung und Motivik aufzuzeigen. Aufschlussreicher als die Frage nach den Parallelen ist allerdings diejenige nach den wesentlichen Unterschieden. An diesen lsst sich das den Texten zugrunde liegende sthetikmodell genau analysieren. Wegen ihrer thematischen Nhe zum Sujet der sthetik werden die Komplexe 'Knstler und Wahnsinn' sowie 'Duplizitt des Seins' im selben Kontext errtert.
