Die vorliegende Arbeit beschrnkt sich daher bei der Beschftigung mit diesem Werk auf die beiden Hauptcharaktere, Kater Murr und Johannes Kreisler. Sie werden dabei im Einzelnen betrachtet . Es sei hier jedoch angemerkt, dass die Arbeit keinen Anspruch auf Vollstndigkeit erhebt, da schon allein diese beiden Figuren schier unerschpflich sind. Wie im Inhaltsverzeichnis zu erkennen, wurden deshalb einzelne, wichtige Aspekte herausgegriffen, denen sich diese Arbeit widmet. An dieser Stelle soll auerdem eine kleine Einleitung, bzw. Hinfhrung zum Roman geliefert werden: Das Urerlebnis, das E.T.A. Hoffmanns ganzes Werk durchzieht, ist der radikale Dualismus von Ideal und Wirklichkeit, der unlsbare Konflikt zwischen dem gemeinen Alltag und dem hochgespannten Menschengeist, der die Erdenwirklichkeit bersteigen und den Himmel des Ideals erstrmen will. [...] Die lustige erzhlerische Fiktion, kraft der sich durch ein Versehen des Setzers in die eine Biographie Fetzen einer anderen eingeschlichen haben, geht bekanntlich auf Jean Paulsche Anregungen zurck."1 Die zwei verschiedenen Biographien stehen also nicht fr sich selbst, sondern sind durch ihre stndige gegenseitige Unterbrechung ineinander verwoben. Dualismus entsteht durch die verschiedenen Welten, die des philistrsen Katers und die des Musikers und wahren Knstlers Kreisler.
