Los cafetales de sombra son uno de los agroecosistemas que ms semejan las condiciones de los bosques originales y en ellos logran sobrevivir numerosas especies de orqudeas. En estos tiempos de cambio climtico y prdida de biodiversidad se reporta Oncidium poikilostalix (Orchidaceae) como nueva especie para Mxico en 2008, con dos poblaciones insipientes en plantaciones de caf. Por esto es de gran inters estudiar su estructura poblacional, sus caractersticas reproductivas y los hongos endfitos con los que se asocia en la regin. Este libro permite evaluar el estado actual de conservacin de esta orqudea, su posible influencia sobre otras orqudeas epfitas con las que comparte el cafetal y determinar las respuestas morfolgicas y adaptativas que le han permitido colonizar este paisaje antrpico. Los resultados obtenidos deben contribuir al manejo ms eficiente de esta y otras especies de orqudeas con caractersticas similares y de los agroecosistemas cafetaleros que ocupan. Resultar de gran utilidad para los investigadores del campo de la ecologa y la conservacin o para los manejadores de recursos naturales de un pas tan mega diverso como Mxico y del resto del mundo.
