Whrend es seit langem technisch mglich ist, mageschneiderte Einzellsungen fr den zwischenbetrieblichen Informations austausch zu entwickeln, ist eine wirtschaftliche Abwicklung gerade fr kleine und mittlere Unternehmen entscheidend davon abhngig, ob es allgemein oder zumindest weitgehend an erkannte Standards gibt. Es haben sich inzwischen viele Branchenstandards herausgebildet, die aber immer wieder das gleiche Problem deutlich werden lassen: es gibt kaum ein Unternehmen, das seine Geschfts beziehungen wirklich nur innerhalb einer Branche unterhlt. Vielmehr mssen sehr oft meh rere Verfahren nebeneinander eingeflihrt und gepflegt werden. Whrend dies fr groe Unternehmen keine groe Belastung bedeutet, schrecken die kleineren verstndlicherweise davor zurck dadurch wird die Ab.eptanz von elektronischem Datenaustausch insgesamt behindert. Eine wirksame Abhilfe kann nur durch einen universellen und globalen Standard geschaffen werden, wie er mit der internationalen Norm UN/EDIFACT vorliegt. Diese Norm erfllt zwar einerseits die Forderung nach einer einheitlichen Lsung fr die ver schiedensten Anwendungsflle, andererseits bewirkt dies aber auch einen Umfang und eine Komplexitt, die vielfach kritisiert werden. Die Diskussion wird hufig sehr oberflchlich und vordergrndig gefhrt. Es fehlt bisher eine wissenschaftlich fundierte Untersuchung.
