The volume assembles 21 contributions in handbook format on editing practice in connection with largely literary Germanlanguage authors. It also gives an outline of the history of electronic editing. With reference to the general history of Germanlanguage editing practice, the individual longitudinal surveys provide both guidance to the editorial landscape pertaining to the respective author and links with historical and presentday approaches to scholarly editing. Accordingly, the contributions can be regarded as building blocks for a largescale history of editing.
