Aus Sicht der Befrworter garantieren staatliche Lohnuntergrenzen eine faire Bezahlung und verringern auf diese Weise Armut. Die Kritiker von Mindestlhnen sehen dagegen eine Verschrfung sozialer Probleme durch steigende Arbeitslosigkeit als Folge gesetzlicher Eingriffe in das Lohnsystem einer Marktwirtschaft. Die vorliegende Studie vermittelt dem Leser zunchst einen generellen Einblick in das Thema "Mindestlohn" und prsentiert die allgemeinen Vor und Nachteile gesetzlicher Lohnuntergrenzen. Darauf aufbauend werden verschiedene konometrische Methoden dargestellt, mit denen konomen versuchen, die Effekte von Mindestlhnen auf Beschftigung, Armut oder beispielsweise Inflation zu messen. Dazu zhlen neben rein deskriptiven Anstzen auch zum Beispiel die DifferenceinDifference Methode. Mit diesem theoretischen und konometrischen Wissen ausgestattet findet der Leser im dritten Teil des Buches eine ausfhrliche Analyse der Effekte einer aggressiven Mindestlohnpolitik in Argentinien. Im untersuchten Zeitraum von 2003 bis 2006 wurde die gesetzliche Lohnuntergrenze in Argentinien von 200 auf 1.240 Pesos erhht. Der Autor untersucht, welche Auswirkungen diese drastische Erhhung auf die Armutsproblematik in Argentinien hatte. Vor dem Hintergrund, dass auch in Deutschland Mindestlhne ein regelmiges Diskussionsthema sind, liefert das vorliegende Buch dem Leser einen sehr guten Einblick in die wissenschaftliche Analyse staatlicher Lohnuntergrenzen.
