Mit diesen Worten erffnet Michael Jurevic Lermontov seinen Roman "Ein Held unserer Zeit", welcher Gegenstand der folgenden Untersuchungen ist. Das von dem Autor im Jahre 1838 begonnene und Anfang 1840 fertig gestellte Manuskript erschien bereits im Mai 1840 erstmalig in Buchform und gilt als das bedeutendste Werk des russischen Schriftstellers. Ein Anliegen der vorliegenden Arbeit soll es sein die Besonderheiten der ersten Erzhlung "Bela" zu ergrnden. Eine Gattungszuordnung lsst sich schwerlich anstellen, doch erwies es sich in vielerlei Hinsicht aufschlussreich "Bela" unter dramentheoretischen Gesichtspunkten zu untersuchen. Dabei soll zunchst auf den kompositorischen Aufbau der Erzhlung sowie auf deren Stellung und Bedeutung innerhalb des Romans nher eingegangen werden, um dann eine genaue Analyse derselben anzustellen. Infolge dessen ergibt sich die Beleuchtung des Protagonisten Pecorin, bei dem sich die Frage nach seiner Bedeutung als Held, oder gar als Antiheld, der Geschichte erffnet. Abschlieend soll geklrt werden, in welchem Sinne das Mdchen Bela eine Verkrperung bestimmter Leitbilder der Romantik darstellt.
