Iosif Brodskij (19401996) stand dem voyeuristischen Genre der Biographie ausserst skeptisch gegenuber. Jens Herlth untersucht die Strategien, mit denen Brodskij gegen die Zumutungen tradierter Dichterkonzepte und biographischer Vereinnahmungen anzuschreiben suchte. In seiner Ablehnung der ausseren Zugriffe artikuliert sich vor allem ein Beharren auf der Deutungsmacht uber das eigene Werk. Gleichwohl ist Brodskijs Selbstdarstellung keineswegs frei von Selbststilisierung. Diese Studie arbeitet die poetologischen, narrativen, rhetorischen und performativen Verfahren heraus, die dabei zur Anwendung kommen, und liefert einen umfassenden Uberblick uber das Gesamtwerk des Dichters.
