Die Bedeutung der industriellen Mikrobiologie hat in den letzten beiden J ahrzehnten auBerordentlich zugenommen, trotzdem liegt fur Studenten noch kein deutschsprachiges Taschenbuch vor, mit dem sie sich uber dieses Fachgebiet schnell informieren kannen. Das vor liegende Buch versucht diese Lucke zu schlieBen und gleichzeitig sowohl Studenten als auch schon tatige Wissenschaftler fur das Gebiet der industriellen Mikrobiologie zu interessieren. Es ist als eine Ein fUhrung in das Stoffgebiet gedacht. Hierbei wurde auch die verfahrens technische Seite der technischen Mikrobiologie berucksichtigt, weil die hieruber vorliegende Literatur fur Studenten oft nur schwer zu ganglich und haufig auch schwer lesbar ist. Auf die wirtschaftliche Bedeutung von Verfahren wird nicht hingewiesen, da diese einerseits raschen Veranderungen unterworfen und andererseits fur eine Ein fuhrung, die gleichzeitig fur Lehrzwecke geeignet sein solI, nicht not wendig ist. Es wurde immer versucht, die Darstellungen maglichst einfach zu halten. Ich machte allen Kollegen danken, die mir durch wertvolle Hin weise bei der Abfassung des Taschenbuches geholfen haben. Herm Prof. Schlegel danke ich fUr die Anregung, das Taschenbuch zu schrei ben. Weiterhin danke ich allen, die mich bei der Korrektur des Ma nuskriptes unterstutzt haben.
