Dieses Studienbuch ist eine grundlegende Einfhrung in das Fach Phonetik als Teildisziplin der Allgemeinen Sprachwissenschaft. Alle Bereiche der Phonetik werden eingehend dargestellt (Phonation, Artikulation, Akustik, Perzeption usw.) und es wird eine kurze Geschichte des Faches geboten. Leitlinie der Einfhrung ist das Anliegen, die bei der lautsprachlichen Kommunikation beobachtbaren phonetischen Phnomene und die mit ihnen verbundenen Vorgnge in der physikalischen Welt als Nutzung unserer biologischen Ausstattung zu kommunikativen Zwecken darzustellen. Besonderes Gewicht wird im ersten Teil auf das Zusammenspiel von artikulatorischen, akustischen und auditiven Phnomenen gelegt. Der zweite symbolphonetische Teil behandelt die linguistische Phonetik unter dem Gesichtspunkt der Verwendung dieser Phnomene in Form einzelsprachlicher Lautsysteme und suprasegmentaler Systeme. Die in der Lehre bestens etablierte Standardeinfhrung ist besonders auch fr Einsteiger geeignet und zeichnet sich durch zahlreiche didaktische Schemata und Abbildungen aus. Sie liegt jetzt in einer zweiten, verbesserten und ergnzten Auflage vor. Die zweite, der neuen Orthographie angepasste Auflage wurde typographisch und inhaltlich sorgfltig berarbeitet und um kleinere Abschnitte, insbesondere zum praktischen experimentalphonetischen Arbeiten, ergnzt.
