Huntington sowohl in wissenschaftlichen als auch auerwissenschaftlichen Diskursen eine bedeutende Stellung eingenommen und zur Diskussion ber die Beziehungen von kultureller Identitt und politischem Handeln beigetragen. Die Thesen Huntingtons werden im ersten Teil dargestellt. Darauf kann nicht verzichtet werden, weil die Popularitt des Buches in der breiten ffentlichkeit unabhngig von einer eingehenderen Auseinandersetzung mit den Thesen Huntingtons fortbesteht, ffentliche Diskussionen ber einen mglichen Kampf der Kulturen also hufig ohne den Hintergrund genauerer Lektrekenntnisse gefhrt werden. Die daraufhin folgenden Kritiken im zweiten Teil sollen belegen, dass es sich beim Kampf der Kulturen nicht um ein wissenschaftliches Paradigma handelt und auf begriffliche sowie inhaltliche Inkonsistenzen und Widersprche hinweisen. Die Kritik ist aufgeteilt in die Gliederungspunkte Der Begriff des Paradigmas, Einteilung in Kulturen, Kulturelle oder ethnische Konflikte sowie Neorassismus. Gelegentliche Polemiken gegen Huntingtons Kampf der Kulturen im zweiten Teil mag der Leser mir verzeihen, sie knnen der Polemik und dem Zynismus Huntingtons gegenber politischen Realitten und historischen Tatsachen nicht das Wasser reichen.
