Heute fhrt er mit der Familie eine Gaststtte. Im Januar 1945 wurde er von einem auf den anderen Tag erwachsen und die Wucht des Krieges erfasste den 12jhrigen. Friedhelm Materne rumte sein Gedchtnis auf und packte alles in ein kleines Buch. Das, was er dabei ans Tageslicht befrderte, sprengt allerdings die Vorstellungskraft des an Normalitt gewohnten Menschen. Sein Buch "Eiskalter Atem" schildert die Flucht, den Weg zurck in die Heimat, die Vertreibung aus derselben, die geheime Ausreise aus der DDR. Die geschilderten Ereignisse lassen erschaudern und bringen Gnsehaut auf den Krper. Heirat, selbststndiger Gastwirt bis zum heutigen Tage.
